Terms of Use

Effective August 20, 2026

Shepherd Rover drives real hardware with real motors. These terms cover how you may use the app and, more to the point, the safety rules that come with pointing software at a moving vehicle.

Acceptance

By installing or using Shepherd Rover you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the app.

What Shepherd Rover is

Shepherd Rover is a remote control for third-party robotic vehicles, built around the Waveshare WAVE ROVER. It is an independent app: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or supported by Waveshare, and Waveshare provides no warranty or support for it. The hardware, its firmware, and its own safety characteristics are the manufacturer's responsibility, not ours.

Safety

You are responsible for the rover you drive and for everything it does. Before you drive:

  • Keep the rover in direct sight while it is moving. The app is not a substitute for watching the vehicle.
  • Keep people, animals, and property clear of the rover's path. It has motors and mass, and it can injure or damage.
  • Do not operate near stairs, ledges, roads, water, or machinery, or anywhere a runaway vehicle could cause harm.
  • Treat the WiFi link as something that can drop at any moment. Range, interference, and a falling battery all end a session without warning, sometimes in the middle of a command.
  • The emergency stop sends a stop command over the same link that may already have failed. It is a convenience, not a guaranteed stop, and it is not a substitute for physical access to the rover's power switch.
  • Do not leave a powered rover unattended, and power it down when you are finished.

Shepherd Rover is not a functional-safety product. Its stop behavior is designed with established emergency-stop principles in mind, but it is certified to no functional-safety standard, and it must not be used in any application where a failure to stop, a delayed command, or a lost connection could cause injury, death, or significant damage.

License

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Shepherd Rover for personal or professional purposes, subject to these terms and to the standard end-user terms of the store you installed it from.

Acceptable use

  • Use the app only for lawful purposes, and only where operating a remote-controlled vehicle is permitted.
  • Operate only hardware you own or are authorized to operate.
  • You are responsible for the firmware on your rover, including anything you flash or modify. Modified firmware can change how the rover answers commands, stop commands included.
  • Do not use the app to interfere with, take control of, or disrupt anyone else's hardware or network.

Disclaimer of warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant uninterrupted operation, error-free behavior, that a command will arrive, that a command will arrive in time, or compatibility with any particular rover, firmware revision, controller, or network.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, use, goodwill, revenue, or profits, nor for damage to hardware, property, or persons arising from use of the app.

Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

Trademarks

Waveshare and WAVE ROVER are trademarks of Waveshare Electronics. Apple, iPhone, iPad, and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Android and Google Play are trademarks of Google LLC. Shepherd Rover is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The updated version is posted on this page with a revised effective date.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute shall be resolved in the courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
